Who we Are And why You Should Train at our el cajon academy
We live in a day and age where school bullying, workplace violence, and aggressive people in the grocery store are real threats to your safety and can happen when you least expect it. It is critical that you are equipped with the tools to keep yourself safe.

Since opening, we have been dedicated to changing the lives of El Cajon, Santee and La Mesa kids and adults through our martial arts, karate, and self-defense training programs. We take pride in creating an environment for you or your child to achieve, develop, and succeed in your goals.
We strongly believe that martial arts can be for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or experience level. I’m Sigung Darryl James, Chief Instructor at the James Martial Arts Academy in El Cajon, California.
I will use my extensive background to teach you how to defend yourself. I am a certified Kosho-Ryu and Kajukenbo instructor, and I taught Krav Maga for three years. I am USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame inductee and a former US Karate Team member. During the day, I serve as the Chief Administrative Officer for the largest research support program at the University of California, San Diego.
Nothing is more satisfying than seeing students grow firsthand. However, more important than the martial arts skills that students will learn are their personal development and life skills, which will serve them well throughout their lives because learning martial arts & karate is much more than just kicking, punching, strikes, joint locks, and advancing in belt rank.
Martial arts will develop self-confidence, discipline, character, focus, and respect. Kids and adults grow in mind and body with every class we teach. You or your child will develop discipline and respect by learning to focus on the core movements. That’s because martial arts provide instant positive feedback. You will immediately see and feel a difference, which helps build confidence, self-awareness, and self-respect.
We train hard, but every class is tons of fun! This is why I love teaching martial arts to kids and adults in El Cajon and now worldwide with our virtual classes, and why I know you and your child will enjoy training with us.
